As reported earlier, the board of trustees of the W. Alton
Jones Foundation has agreed to divide the foundation and to
distribute its assets among three charitable organizations
that will be headed by members of the Jones family.
The foundation will honor all of its outstanding commitments,
and it is developing an exit strategy that will be finalized
by October 31. The foundation is not considering new proposals.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA The W. Alton Jones Foundation today announced
that its board of trustees has agreed to dissolve the foundation
and to distribute its assets among three new charitable organizations
that will be headed by members of the Jones family. The Foundation
will honor all of its outstanding commitments.
The decision to create three new organizations will help
build upon the tremendous accomplishments of the W. Alton
Jones Foundation, while providing the opportunity to explore
additional areas of philanthropic activity.
The family has taken this step in order to continue and expand
the important work that has characterized the W. Alton Jones
Foundation for more than 56 years. The family is committed
to furthering that legacy and continuing its mission, as enunciated
by W. Alton Jones, to "promote the well being and general
good of mankind throughout the world."
The W. Alton Jones Foundation was established in 1944 by
W. Alton Jones, Since 1980, the Foundation has focused on
efforts to develop new ways for humanity to interact with
the planet's ecological systems and worked to eliminate the
possibility of nuclear war by providing alternative methods
of resolving conflicts and promoting security. The Board acknowledges
the significant contributions of the Foundation's employees
to these important endeavors. The foundation is based in Charlottesville,
