Dismantle Existing Weapons

Why is it
important?

Only when weapons are properly dismantled and disposed of do they cease to pose a threat. Thirty thousand nuclear weapons still exist.

What needs to
be done?

The U.S. and Russia need, initially, to reduce weapons down to levels of 1,000 or lower.

Russia and the U.S. need to develop adequate facilities for safely and securely dismantling nuclear weapons.
